Not Pouring? Poor you. But you can ride this wave of events
Thursday, September 09, 2010

Just as we told you, the ($55) tickets for Saturday's Steel City Big Pour Four, the fourth annual beer and food festival fundraiser at and for non-profit Construction Junction in Point Breeze, sold out in hours last month.

But you still can revel in the beery overflow of related events happening around town, which included a drawing for two tickets last night at Bocktown Beer & Grill. Other events include:

Tonight

From 6 to 9 p.m., Regent Square's D's 6 Pax & Dogz will present the brewers and brews from Troegs, Erie and Roy Pitz.

From 6 to 9 p.m. at Greensburg's The Headkeeper, they'll be pouring special drafts with a rep from the Global Brewers Guild.

From 7 to 9 p.m. at the new Spoon on Highland Avenue in East Liberty, meet brewers from Oskar Blues, Stone and Victory and sip rare drafts from each.

Friday

From 5 to 7 p.m., Shadyside's Harris Grill will host the four brewers from Erie, Furthermore, Oskar Blues and Troegs for "a little informal meet and greet," writes Rodney Swartz. "We'll have at least two selections from each brewery on tap. For folks who missed out on event tickets this year (they went fast!) or for prior participants who know just how crazy it gets, here's a way to try some great beers and meet the people who make them."

From 4 to 6 p.m. at Banksville Beer on Banksville Road, you can sample Troegs brews.

Starting at 7 p.m. at Homestead's Blue Dust, you can meet brewers from Dogfish Head, East End, Roy Pitz, Stone, Victory and Weyerbacher, who'll share rare drafts.

From 8 to 10 p.m., the Sharp Edge in Friendship/East Liberty will hold a "Mini Beer Fest" and pour samples from Erie, Furthermore, Oskar Blues, Troegs and Yards.

South Side's Double Wide Grill's "Big Pour Preview" will include beers from Founders, Full Pint and Terrapin.

And furthermore, Furthermore will be featured in one event being billed as a "post-Pour" event: Pittsburgh Cultural Trust's Craft Beer School at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Cabaret at Theater Square (pgharts.com).

Here's another festival we just learned about: Wright's Seafood Inn in Heidelberg is holding its own Fall Craft Beer Festival, to which it invites you "if you couldn't get a ticket to the Steel City Big Pour, or if you just love Oktoberfests and fall seasonal beers." From 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, they'll pour 25 of them, and serve small plates of food, at stations set up around the place, from its Tap Room to its outdoor Beach Bar and Boardwalk (where there'll be live music), winding up in the Back Room, where Scotch ales will be paired with dessert and a complimentary cigar. Tickets are $25 ($30 at the door); reserve at 412-279-7900.
