Retired Highcliff Elementary teacher Fran Drake, right, returned Monday to help Karen Bordt prepare her fifth-grade classroom as teachers move into the remodeled school in Ross.

When school resumes Tuesday, enrollment will be at 515, from 250 the previous year.

Ms. Drake taught first grade for 25 years.
