Monday, August 30, 2010

The University of Pittsburgh has named two vice provosts -- one for graduate studies and another for academic planning and resources management.

The graduate studies post will be filled in October by Alberta M. Sbragia, professor of political science and director of the European Studies Center and European Union Center of Excellence.

The academic planning and resources management post will be filled, effective Wednesday, by David N. DeJong, professor and chair of Pitt's Department of Economics.

Dr. Sbragia is a leading expert on European politics and economics and a leading authority on the teaching of international affairs. She joined the university faculty in 1974.

Dr. DeJong -- whose research focuses on macroeconomics, econometrics and transition economics -- joined Pitt's faculty in 1989. He is published widely in general interest economics journals and field journals.
