West Allegheny teachers on Thursday unanimously voted in favor of allowing its negotiating team to authorize a strike if they deem it necessary.
The strike authorization vote does not mean the teachers necessarily will go on strike, but it gives their negotiating team more power at the bargaining table. If teachers do decide to go on strike, they must give a 48-hour notice.
Other school districts where contracts are unsettled and teachers have passed a strike authorization vote include Allegheny Valley, Moon Area and Bethel Park.
