
Jim and Madelyn Wissenbach, of Brentwood, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on February 6. They celebrated this important day with their son, Jim Jr. and daughter-in-law, Eileen; their daughter, Karen and her fiance, Jim Patterson and their two grandchildren, Krista and Meghan.
Q: How did you meet?
Jim: I got to know Madelyn while swimming at the Brentwood Park and dancing at Sully's.
Q: Where did you each grow up?
Madelyn: Jim and I both grew up in Brentwood.
Q: Who proposed? How?
Jim: I proposed to Madelyn on her birthday. I took her to dinner at the Holiday House in Monroeville and gave her a diamond engagement ring.
Q: Where were you married? Why did you choose that site?
Madelyn: Jim and I chose to be married at St. Sylvester Church where we were parishioners.
Q: Where was the reception and honeymoon?
Madelyn: Our wedding reception was in the Castle Shannon Fire Hall. We decided on a two-week motor trip to Florida for our honeymoon.
Q: What is your favorite wedding memory?
Jim: An extended honeymoon because upon returning to the turnpike we were told that all roads to Pittsburgh were impassable, so we spent two additional days in Maryland which was as far as we could get.
Q: Do you still own any of your wedding gifts? If so, what?
Jim: The wedding gifts that we still own are the Rosenthal China I shipped from Germany while serving in the Army and the silverware that we received as gifts.
Q: What is the secret to your successful marriage?
Madelyn: Forgiveness
Jim: Lots of hugs and kisses
Q: What activity do you enjoy doing most as a couple?
Madelyn: Jim and I love participating in the Silver Sneakers program, bowling and traveling to Florida in March.
Q: How did you celebrate your anniversary?
Jim: We celebrated our anniversary by going to Mass and out to dinner with our family.
