School districts awaiting word from the state Department of Education on whether they will have to make up their snow days will have to wait a bit longer.
About 30 school districts have requested snow-related waivers, according to Leah Harris, spokeswoman for the department.
"We do not typically issue waivers due to severe weather," Ms. Harris said Thursday, "but because of the unprecedented amount of snow we received in February, the department is requesting additional information from each district that submitted a waiver request in order to consider school districts' individual circumstances prior to making a final determination on the requests.
"Therefore we will not have responses until we receive the additional information and review."
Schools districts are required to provide 180 days of instruction by June 30 unless they receive a waiver from the state. Among the districts making requests is Pittsburgh Public Schools.
