Allderdice student suspected of making bombs in jewelry class
Thursday, March 04, 2010

A Pittsburgh Allderdice High School sophomore is suspected of making two pipe bombs in jewelry class, but no explosives were involved and no one was injured.

School district spokeswoman Ebony Pugh said the jewelry teacher became suspicious of the project which the student was working on during the last period today. The teacher talked to the student about it and then took the project to the office where personnel contacted the school police. By then, the student had left the building. City police, including the bomb squad, also were called to the school.

Ms. Pugh said the student faces disciplinary action. She said the matter also is under investigation by city police, but no charges had been filed as of late this afternoon.

"There was no risk of anything happening with the item. The students were never in danger," she said.
