The Leechburg Area School District complex was locked down Wednesday as police sought two burglary suspects seen in the high school.
School district and police officials believe the two young men may have rifled through lockers in the girls' locker room before they were spotted in a high school hallway and taken to the school's administrative office.
But the two ignored Superintendent James Budzilek's orders to remain in the office until police arrived and fled, said K-12 Principal Cynthia Portman.
Leechburg police were searching for the suspects.
Dr. Portman said the school complex, which is on Penn Avenue and houses the elementary, junior high and senior high schools, was locked down because police thought the suspects may have been holed up in a nearby building.
Officers found no one, but Dr. Portman said the school district still was taking precautions to protect students.
Junior and senior high students were dismissed at the regular time but they were told to go directly to their buses or to wait at the school until relatives picked them up.
