Road restrictions are a harbinger of spring

Port Authority buses detoured during St. Patrick's Day Parade -- Multiple routes will see temporary stop changes and detoured or shortened routing on Saturday.

Due to a change in the parade staging area, many routes passing through the Strip District will be detoured as early as 8 a.m., with other detours starting around 9 a.m. Additionally, bus routes coming from the South Hills and West End will terminate at Station Square, where riders continuing into Downtown can transfer to the T for free; the 28X Airport Flyer also will serve Station Square, temporarily bypassing Downtown. A number of routes will terminate at the East Busway's Penn Station and a temporary rail shuttle will take riders to Steel Plaza.

Full service is expected to be restored by 3 p.m.




Butler Street, Liberty Avenue, Lawrenceville -- Single lane closures possible 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through late June at 40th and Butler streets; Butler and Penn Avenue; and Liberty Avenue and Ligonier Street during traffic signal upgrades that are part of Route 28 detour improvement project.

East Carson Street, South Side -- Lane closures and alternating one-way traffic from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. nightly Monday through Wednesday between Hot Metal and 33rd streets. Beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday, traffic reduced to a single lane in each direction and moved onto the eastbound (outbound) lanes, through June.

Fort Pitt Tunnels -- One lane open inbound 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday and Monday nights; one lane open outbound same times Tuesday and Wednesday nights, during washing.

Greensburg Pike, North Versailles -- Bridge over Route 30 closed through November for replacement. Detour posted.

Greentree Road, West End -- Alternating one-way traffic between Woodville Avenue and Ridgemont Drive because of landslide.

Liberty Tunnels -- Inbound tunnel closed for major rehabilitation Sundays through Thursdays from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. through late August.

Light Rail Transit -- Gateway Center closed through 2011.

McKees Rocks Bridge -- Restricted to one lane eastbound toward Route 65 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through mid-May during sidewalk work.

McLaughlin Run Road, Upper St. Clair -- Alternating one-way traffic near Route 19 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays starting Tuesday through March 26 during culvert work.

Parkway East -- Bridge that carries on- and off-ramp traffic at the Squirrel Hill interchange closed from 8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. Inbound off-ramp and access to the inbound on-ramp from Beechwood Boulevard also closed during concrete and guide rail work. Detours posted.

Single lane closures inbound from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through Friday near bridge over Old William Penn Highway west of the Plum interchange (Exit 84) as crews do drainage work.

Right lane closed outbound from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily through Sunday on approach to Squirrel Hill Tunnels during sign installation.

Single lane closures in both directions from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday in the area of the bridge that carries Jefferson Heights Road between Penn Hills (Exit 81) and Plum (Exit 84B).

One outbound lane closed nightly starting at 10 p.m. between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and the Commercial Street overpass west of Edgewood-Swissvale (Exit 77) for guide rail work, through Friday.

Lane closures after 9 nightly next week during sign work at the Squirrel Hill interchange.

Parkway East, Parkway West -- Intermittent short-term lane closures at various locations from 6 a.m. to noon Saturday on outbound lanes and 6 a.m. to noon Sunday on inbound lanes during sign inspections. Restrictions on Parkway East will be between Edgewood-Swissvale and Greensburg Pike, on Parkway West between Carnegie and Parkway Center Mall.

Parkway West, Carnegie -- Lane closures after 9 nightly next week during sign work at the interchange.

Parkway West, Robinson -- Single lane closures outbound as needed from 6 a.m. to noon Saturday between Weirton/Steubenville Pike (Exit 60A) and Robinson Town Centre (Exit 59) during drilling to prepare for future project.

Pennsylvania Turnpike -- Closed in both directions between Donegal (Exit 91) and Somerset (Exit 110) from 11:45 tonight until 6 a.m. Sunday during removal of pedestrian bridge. Detour cards to be distributed at toll plazas. Detour via Routes 281 and 31 to add estimated 30 minutes to travel time.

Rankin Bridge -- Single-lane traffic continues in each direction through October. Sidewalk on main span closed for reconstruction. Port Authority has free-ride zone between Rankin and Whitaker for pedestrians for the duration of construction.

Rialto Street, Troy Hill -- Reopening scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday.

Route 8, Hampton -- Restricted to one lane in both directions from Harts Run Road to Duncan Avenue starting Monday through October.

Route 19, McCandless -- Lane closures between Longue Vue Avenue and Wallace Road 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday during geotechnical drilling in advance of major Wexford Flats improvement project scheduled to start in late summer.

Route 22/30, North Fayette -- Eastbound right lane closed between Oakdale and Old Steubenville Pike/Bayer Road exits from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Friday, March 5 during sign work.

Route 28 -- Right lane closed in both directions at Etna interchange from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to midnight starting Monday through March 20, followed by other lane restrictions for major reconstruction from Millvale to near the 31st Street Bridge.

Ramp from Millvale to northbound lanes closed from 8 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday for concrete repairs to bridge. Detour posted.

Route 30, North Versailles -- Closed on the weekends of March 19-22 and March 26-29 for removal of Greensburg Pike bridge.

Route 65, Glenfield -- One lane in each direction near I-79 interchange from 7 a.m. Monday to 3 p.m. March 19 on southbound, 7 a.m. March 22 northbound.

Smithfield Street and Seventh Avenue, Downtown -- Lane closure on Seventh between Smithfield and William Penn Place will relocate bus stops on 28X Airport Flyer, EBA East Busway All Stops and 12 other Port Authority routes through July.

South Main Street, West End -- Left lane closed closed 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday between the Saw Mill Run Boulevard merge ramp and West Carson Street. Crews will be pouring concrete.

Squirrel Hill Tunnels -- Inbound restricted to one lane from 10 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday for washing.

Steubenville Pike, Robinson -- Single lane in both directions starting at 9 a.m. Monday through late April between the Montour Church Road/Old Steubenville Pike interchange and Park Manor Drive during bridge work.

Tri-Boro Expressway -- Expressway/Braddock Avenue closed in both directions from O'Connell Boulevard to Cable Avenue for bridge replacement. Also, East Pittsburgh-McKeesport Boulevard closed from Elder Street to the Tri-Boro Expressway. Main Street under the bridge closed from Braddock Avenue to Bessemer Avenue until summer.

West Carson Street, West End -- Closed inbound near the West End Bridge 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday. Traffic to be detoured through West End. Outbound closed 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday.

West End Bridge -- Right lane heading toward North Side closed 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily next week through Friday.
