The Penn Hills school board named Joseph W. Carroll Jr. as district superintendent at its meeting last night.

Dr. Carroll had been assistant superintendent in the district since 2004, then became acting superintendent in June, when former Superintendent Patricia Gennari resigned.

He will have a three-year contract and an annual salary of $130,000. His appointment is effective immediately.
