Penn State clinches Rose Bowl bid

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. --- Penn State is headed back to the Rose Bowl.

Junior quarterback Daryll Clark tossed four touchdown passes and ran for another score today as No. 7 Penn State demolished No. 17 Michigan State, 49-18.

Clark completed 16 of 26 passes for a career-high 341 yards as the Nittany Lions (11-1, 7-1) clinched a share of the Big Ten title and advanced to the New Year's Day game for the first time since 1994.

Clark threw first-half touchdown passes of 5 yards to Graham Zug and 32 yards to Derrick Williams. Clark had scoring passes of 4 and 70 yards to Deon Butler in the third quarter.

Backup quarterback Pat Devlin also tossed a 59-yard touchdown pass to Butler in the fourth quarter.

Coach Joe Paterno, whose contract expires after the bowl game, said at a pep rally on campus Friday night that that he intends to return for his 44th season in 2009. He turns 82 Dec. 21 and is expected to have replacement surgery on his right hip next week.
