Saturday, November 22, 2008

The Pittsburgh Homicide Squad has arrested a man in connection with an early morning fatal shooting in Uptown.

Just after midnight, a Duquesne University Officer was patrolling the 1300 block of Watson Street when he observed a man, later identified as 27-year-old Jonathan Brown, firing a gun. Mr. Brown then ran down Watson toward Pride. The officer pursued Mr. Brown and then detained him in a wooded area on Our Way. Pittsburgh police officers arrived and took Mr. Brown into custody. A stolen firearm that was discarded by Mr. Brown was later recovered.

Detectives learned that Mr. Brown had been in a fight with a 27-year-old man from Homewood near the corner of Fifth Avenue and Stevenson. During the altercation, Mr. Brown shot the man. The victim, whose name is not being released pending notification of the family, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jonathon Brown is charged with criminal homicide, carrying a firearm without a license, receiving stolen property, recklessly endangering another person, and resisting arrest.
