Illegal gambling machines seized from 3 city bars
Saturday, November 22, 2008

Detectives from Pittsburgh's Vice Squad say they have seized 10 illegal gambling machines from three city bars.

They also took more than $3,200 and other gambling paraphernalia when they searched Down the Road Saloon on the South Side; Brookline Pub in Brookline; and Mr. Bill's Tap & Grill on the North Side.

The seizure was the result of a months-long investigation into the illegal machines after police received many complaints about their use. A gaming machine becomes illegal when it is tampered with, or when it generates a pay-out.

It also follows a massive public information campaign about illegal gambling, in which police distributed mailings and fliers about possible prosecution for the operation of the machines.
