Funeral services for slain FBI Special Agent Samuel Hicks, who was fatally shot Wednesday while attempting to serve a drug arrest warrant in an Indiana Township home, will be held next week in Maryland.
The funeral for Agent Hicks will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen, 5200 N. Charles St., Baltimore.
Friends will be received tomorrow and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Schimunek Funeral Home, 9705 Bel Air Road, Perry Hall, Md.
Agent Hicks is a native of Alverton, Westmoreland County, and graduated from Southmoreland High School. His wife, Brooke, is originally from Baltimore. The couple and their son, Noah, 2, were living in Richland since he was assigned to the FBI's Pittsburgh Field Office in August 2007.
Before his FBI career, he briefly worked as a teacher and as an Ocean City, Md., police officer before joining the Baltimore Police Department, where he worked for five years, mostly as an undercover narcotics detective. He joined the FBI in March 2007.
In addition to his wife and child, Agent Hicks is survived by his mother and stepfather, Charlotte and Don Carrabotta; his father and stepmother, David and Jean Hicks; a brother, Ben; and a sister, Emily.
Announced yesterday was a special fund established by the FBI and St. Margaret Foundation in Agent Hicks' memory. "The Sam Hicks Fund" will be administered by St. Margaret Foundation, which will accept financial gifts from donors and oversee how those funds are invested and used.
As part of its role, the foundation has agreed to make an initial grant of $1,000 to the fund to help provide food and other assistance during the holiday season for Agent Hicks' wife and son.
