Gasoline and oil spilled into a creek yesterday morning in Mercer County when a Mack truck collided with a tractor-trailer, according to state police.
The Mack truck was heading north on Route 19, behind the Freightliner, when the Freightliner slowed to turn left into a parking area. The Mack truck veered into the southbound lanes to avoid hitting the semi but struck the front of it and traveled down an embankment before coming to rest in a creek, police said.
It is unknown how much gas and oil spilled into the creek, but the state Department of Environmental Protection and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission as well as a hazardous materials team responded to the scene just after 5 a.m.
The driver of the Mack truck, Charles L. Schaefer, 51, of Grove City, suffered minor injuries and was cited for careless driving. The driver of the Freightliner, Ricky Edwards, 47, of New Castle, suffered injuries police described as moderate.
Both men were treated and released from Grove City Medical Center.
