At last week's Adams supervisors meeting, police Chief William Westerman and Assistant Chief Ed Brooks congratulated two officers for their work in a burglary investigation that led to the confiscation of drugs in Butler County.
In August 2007, Patrolmen Jack Linderman and Bob Scanlon investigated a series of burglaries near Beaver Street in Adams. As a result of a month-long investigation, the officers arrested two suspects. They identified a third suspect and obtained a search warrant to search a Zelienople residence. The officers contacted the Butler County Drug Task Force when interrogation of the suspects led them to believe narcotics may have been involved.
With members of the Drug Task Force, Officers Linderman and Scanlon searched the Zelienople residence and recovered all of the stolen property. They also discovered about five pounds of marijuana, three ounces of cocaine, and $42,000 in cash. The three suspects in the case were arrested and convicted. Also at the supervisors meeting, Jenna Morgan, a legislative aide from the office of state Sen. Jane Orie, R-McCandless, presented the police department with a $10,000 grant that will be used to purchase new laptop computers for the department's police cars.
The laptops will enable police to run license checks and connect with other police departments from their patrol cars. According to Assistant Chief Brooks, the department applied for the grant through the state Department of Community and Economic Development. "Senator Orie's office acted as a conduit and enabled us to get the grant," he said.
He also reported that the department will adopt a new schedule for a three-month trial period.
All full-time department employees will move to a four-day work week with 10-hour shifts. The schedule change will not affect the chief and assistant chief. The new schedule will save employee's fuel costs commuting to work.
