Death warrant signed in 2000 Jefferson County slaying

Gov. Ed Rendell has signed a death warrant for a Punxsutawney man who killed a night watchman at a Jefferson County business during a robbery to get money for Christmas presents.

Robert Gene Rega is scheduled to die by lethal injection on Sept. 18, according to a news release.

Mr. Rega killed Christopher Lauth on Dec. 22, 2000 during the robbery at the Gateway Lodge in Cooksburg.
