A Schellsburg man was killed yesterday when he lost control of his vehicle and was struck while attempting to pass a vehicle in front of him on Route 96 in Napier, Bedford County, according to state police.

Kyle L. Walker, 20, was heading south at a high rate of speed when he attempted to pass the car in front, coming about even with the car in front of him when he realized a tri-axle truck was approaching and he did not have enough room to make the pass, police said. Mr. Walker then hit the brakes and tried to get back in the southbound lane when he lost control, slid broadside, and traveled back into the northbound lanes, where he was struck by the truck.

Mr. Walker was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver, Michael L. Berkebile, 32, of Windber, Somerset County, was uninjured.
