Storm brings high winds to three northern counties

A severe storm that prompted a tornado warning last night produced at least one suspected funnel cloud, high winds and hail, brought down wire and trees and sent residents for cover.

The National Weather Service issued the tornado warning around 8 p.m. for Lawrence and Beaver counties, and later for Butler County. The warnings expired at 9:15 p.m. Doppler radar had indicated a tornado near Ellwood City, McConnells Mill State Park, Portersville and Prospect.

While no major damage has been reported, there were some power outages. However, a woman and her daughter had to be freed from their car after a tree fell on the vehicle around 8 p.m. along Route 224 in Mahoning, near New Castle.

The fast-forming storm seemed to originate in Columbiana County in Ohio.
