North Hills School District has hired a veteran administrator as principal for its West View Elementary building.
Frank C. Brettschneider, who retired as an assistant superintendent at North Allegheny School District in November, took the new position at West View this month. West View, the district's second largest elementary building, will serve about 500 students in kindergarten through grade six this fall.
Mr. Brettschneider, 55, was one of three principals hired by the school board recently. Lindsay B. Hauck, 25, an elementary teacher in the Shenango Area School District, was named principal of Seville Elementary. The school will have a fall enrollment of about 200.
Joseph W. Pasquerilla, 27, who recently received a doctoral degree in education, will be principal at Northway Elementary. Northway's enrollment is about 240.
"We are fortunate to welcome three highly qualified educational leaders to our district," Superintendent Joseph Goodnack said in a statement. "They offer a wealth of knowledge and expertise that will effectively move us toward our vision of being recognized as one of America's best public school districts."
Mr. Brettschneider had been serving as interim elementary principal in the Brentwood Borough School District. A classroom teacher for 12 years, he has 14 years of experience as an elementary and middle-school principal.
He earned his bachelor's degree in education from Slippery Rock university and a master's in education administration from Duquesne University. He lives in Munhall with his wife. Sandy.
Mrs. Hauck completed an administrative internship at Shenango Area, where she worked as an elementary teacher for the past four years.
She has a master's degree in education administration from Westminster College and a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Penn State. She and her husband Bill live in Cranberry.
Dr. Pasquerilla completed an administrative internship at West Middlesex Area School District where he has been a social studies teacher for five years.
He is an adjunct instructor at Butler County Community College and a therapist and consultant for Comprehensive Children and Family Services in Sharon.
He finished his doctorate in education from the University of Pittsburgh. He did undergraduate and graduate work in education at Youngstown State University. He lives in Hermitage.
Mrs. Hauck and Dr. Pasquerilla both will be paid $71,000 annually. Mr. Brettschneider's salary was set at $400 per day.
All three contracts are for one year.
Both Seville and Northway are scheduled to close no earlier than fall 2009 under a consolidation plan that depends on expansion of two other North Hills elementary schools.
Those plans have been delayed while the district continues efforts to get municipal approval from Ross for a proposal to double the size of Highcliff Elementary. Work already has begun on renovation and expansion of McIntyre Elementary.
All North Hills schools, except for West View Elementary, are in Ross.
