Yield means yield -- PennDOT knows of 114 accidents last year that occurred because motorists disregarded "yield" signs, which mean drivers are required to slow down and be prepared to stop, if necessary, when merging into traffic. PennDOT said: "A Yield Sign DOES NOT mean that other traffic will yield to you!"
INTERSTATESI-70, Washington County -- PennDOT to begin $11.6 million, 10-mile resurfacing project today between Kammerer Exit and I-79 South Junction. Traffic restricted to one lane in each direction during off-peak periods.
I-79, Allegheny County -- Traffic maintained in both directions northbound over the 6.6-mile reconstruction zone between the Ohio River and I-279 Junction, Franklin Park.
Northbound exit ramp to Route 65 is closed and northbound Route 65 traffic is reduced to a single lane through the end of the month while crews paint the northern end of the Neville Island Bridge over the main channel of the Ohio River.
I-79, Greene County -- One lane in both directions closed between Mileposts 7 and 8 north of West Virginia line.
I-279, Parkway West -- Bridge preservation improvements between Banksville Road and Carnegie will be done in off-peak hours starting tomorrow, including 6 p.m. Saturday to noon Sunday, and 6 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday.
I-279 to North Hills -- HOV lanes closed for first phase of $11.3 million, eight-mile rehabilitation between East Ohio Street and Camp Horne Road interchanges.
I-376/Parkway East -- Only one lane open outbound this weekend. Single-lane restriction began yesterday on Downtown side of Squirrel Hill Tunnel; work to be done by 5 a.m. tomorrow.
STATE HIGHWAYSRoute 19, Marshall -- Single-lane traffic patterns weeknights for repairs on the Pennsylvania Turnpike overpass just south of Cranberry. Late September finish.
Business Route 22, Monroeville/Wilkins -- Mostly off-peak repair, resurfacing work all summer long through the business district.
Route 22, Westmoreland County -- Separate widening projects east of Murrysville and east of New Alexandria mean lane closures, lane shifts and other disruptions.
Route 50, Green Tree area -- Traffic reduced to single lane each way, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays through early August, between Greentree Road and new Walgreens in Heidelberg, for storm water sewer work. Contractor also will modify traffic islands, install new traffic signals.
OTHER ROADSBoulevard of the Allies, Oakland -- Closed outbound east of the Parkway East entrance for interchange reconstruction. Forbes Avenue down to a single lane into Oakland.
Fifth Avenue, East Liberty -- Single lane 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. weekdays at railroad underpass between McPherson Boulevard and Kelly Street, part of the $3.1 million project covering 1.2 miles of Fifth Avenue/Route 8 and Penn Avenue.
Greentree/Cochran roads, Mt. Lebanon -- Lane restrictions 7 p.m.-6 a.m. weekdays through late July for resurfacing between Royce and McMonagle avenues.
Marshall Avenue, North Side -- Lane closures 7 p.m.-5 a.m. and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. daily through late August for milling, paving and repairs between California Avenue and Brighton Road.
Racetrack Road, Meadowlands -- Johnson Road and Meadowlands Boulevard closed through Aug. 30 for casino-related construction.
Stanwix Street, Downtown -- Closed again for several weeks between Fort Duquesne Boulevard and Penn Avenue for light-rail tunneling work.
MAJOR BRIDGESBirmingham Bridge -- One lane maintained in both directions on the southbound side while PennDOT replaces rocker bearings on the northbound side.
Rankin Bridge -- A conractor has started ramp repairs on the Rankin side but mainline work will not start until September, when one lane will be maintained in both directions during more than two years of rehabilitation work. At the same time, unrelated work is being done on South Braddock Avenue and approaches in front of the Hawkins Village housing project.
PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKEE-ZPass sales -- "Instant signups" for E-ZPass program 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. tomorrow through Thursday at Mon-Fayette Expressway mainline toll plazas south of I-70, near California, and in Jefferson Hills, near Large. Cost is $38, with $35 counting as pre-paid balance toward tolls.
PORT AUTHORITYTunnel boring -- The 500-ton machine boring the first of two twin trolley tunnels under the Allegheny River broke through to the receiving pit on Stanwix Street at 7:46 p.m. Friday. A live video camera will remain in place over the next several weeks, enabling people to watch the machine being turned around to start boring the northbound tunnel. Go to www.boretotheshore.com.
