Fourth of July -- Heaviest traffic of the holiday weekend should occur late afternoon/early evening. "Smooth Operator" program has state and local police looking for aggressive drivers through today.
INTERSTATESI-70, Washington County -- PennDOT will begin an $11.6 million, 10-mile resurfacing on July 13 between Kammerer Exit and the I-79 South Junction. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction during off-peak periods, but not next Sunday when the contractor expects to start work at 8 a.m., weather permitting.
Also, while resurfacing takes place 6 p.m.-6 a.m. weekdays between I-79 South and North Junctions, traffic delays can be pretty long at times -- several miles long in the westbound direction on Wednesday night, for example.
I-79, Allegheny County -- Traffic maintained in both directions on the northbound lanes over the 6.6-mile reconstruction zone between the Ohio River and I-279 Junction, Franklin Park.
Use caution around the Bridgeville Interchange, where the far right lane on I-79 north is closed for work on a new acceleration ramp from Route 50.
I-79, Greene County -- Single-lane restrictions in both directions between Mileposts 7 and 8 north of West Virginia line.
I-279 to North Hills -- HOV lanes closed for first phase of $11.3 million, 8-mile rehabilitation between East Ohio Street and Camp Horne Road interchange.
I-376/Parkway East -- No work this weekend because of the holiday. Rehabilitation work with lane restrictions are to resume tomorrow night.
STATE HIGHWAYSBusiness Route 22, Monroeville/Wilkins -- Mostly off-peak repair, resurfacing work all summer long through the business district.
Route 22, Westmoreland County -- Separate widening projects east of Murrysville and east of New Alexandria mean lane closures, lane shifts and other disruptions.
Route 28, Allegheny Valley -- Around-the-clock, single-lane traffic restrictions lifted from Route 910 northbound to the Pittsburgh Mills mall between 3 and 7 p.m. weekdays. Southbound, no lane closures permitted between 5 and 9 a.m.
OTHER ROADS
Boulevard of the Allies, Oakland -- Closed outbound east of the Parkway East entrance for interchange reconstruction. Forbes Avenue down to a single lane into Oakland.
Fifth Avenue, East Liberty -- Reduced to a single lane 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. weekdays at railroad underpass between McPherson Bouelvard and Kelly Street, part of the $3.1 million project covering 1.2 miles of Fifth Avenue/Route 8 and Penn Avenue.
Greentree/Cochran Road, Mt. Lebanon -- Lane restrictions 7 p.m.-6 a.m. weekdays through late July for resurfacing between Royce and McMonagle avenues.
Marshall Avenue, North Side -- Lane closures 7 p.m.-5 a.m. and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. daily through late August for milling, paving and repairs beween California Avenue and Brighton Road.
Montour Church Road, North Fayette -- Route 22/30 overpass is closed, probably through late this week, while repairs are made to a bridge beam damaged by an overheight truck. Single-lane traffic on 22/30 in both directions near the site in proximity to the Parkway West.
Parkway Center, Green Tree -- Ramp from Parkway Center Drive to the Parkway West/I-279 inbound restricted to one lane 9 a.m.-3 p.m. daily for expansion dam repairs.
Presto Sygan Road, South Fayette -- Closed 7 a.m. through August while Pennslvania American Water Co. relocates a line at the slide area near Oakridge Road. Detour will be posted.
Racetrack Road, Meadowlands -- Johnson Road and Meadowlands Boulevard will be closed tomorrow through Aug. 30 for casino-related construction. Earlier construction notices were canceled, work was delayed.
South Main Street, West End -- Block-long stretch that's also Route 60 closed for roadway relocation and building new bridge to Steuben Street. Posted detours use Alexander and Dumas streets.
Stanwix Street, Downtown -- Closed again for several weeks between Fort Duquesne Bouelvard and Penn Avenue for light-rail subway work.
MAJOR BRIDGESBirmingham Bridge -- One lane maintained in both directions on the southbound side while PennDOT replaces rocker bearings on the northbound side.
PORT AUTHORITYTunnel boring-- The 500-ton machine boring the first of two twin trolley tunnels from the North Shore is expected to break ground through to the receiving pit on Stanwix Street sometime this week.
